2024 HIP Community Forum
Celebrating 20 Years of Collaboration
The Health Improvement Partnership of Santa Cruz County (HIP) hosted its 2024 Community Forum, Celebrating 20 Years of Collaboration. The forum was held in person on Thursday, September 12th, 9:30 am – 12:00 pm at Seascape Golf Club in Aptos with support from the following sponsors: Cabrillo College, Central California Alliance for Health, Dientes Community Dental Care, Hospital Council of Northern California, Kaiser Permanente, Rotary Club of Santa Cruz Sunrise, Santa Cruz Community Health Centers, United Way of Santa Cruz County, University of California Santa Cruz, and Workforce Santa Cruz County.
The forum engaged the greater Santa Cruz County community in networking and meaningful conversations to increase access to healthcare and build stronger local healthcare systems. The event was a journey through HIP’s past, present, and future, featuring a panel of HIP’s founding members, Eleanor Rittman, Alan McKay, and Donna Ramos, facilitated by Keisha Bowder, Chief Executive Officer of United Way Santa Cruz and Maritza Lara, Executive Director of HIP.
The featured keynote was Michelle Arevalo-Carpenter, Executive Director of Strategy and Content at SOCAP Global, a systems change catalyzer, and expert convener from South America who highlighted the role reciprocity plays in creating shared possibilities for a healthier community.
Michelle, a social impact investor, with rich expertise in movement building, shared a Community Weaving Framework with 5 elements that strengthen the health of a community: The Fire - the possibility that brings us together, The Web - the relationships that hold us together, The Rhythm - the rituals that connect us, The Circles - the roles we can play, and The Spiral - our individual and collective journeys. Attendees were invited to share their fire, i.e. what they are passionate about relating to healthcare and write on a post-it note creating a collective visual.
The forum ended with a toast to celebrate HIP’s 20th anniversary and Assemblymember Gail Pellerin, representing the 28th California Assembly District, presented HIP with a public proclamation. Thank you to all who attended and celebrated with us!
